ABOUT THE MATERNITY SESSION:
The maternity shoot is a very special shoot that you will cherish for your whole life. It symbolizes your life before it was changed forever by your little miracle. I can offer you an outdoor shoot or an in studio shoot. The outdoor ones are more fun and the indoor more intimate. Everyone is different in what they are looking for especially with maternity pictures so please be open and forthcoming on what it is your wanting to capture. The best time to schedule a Maternity session is between 30-36 weeks (depending on how you carry). You want an obviously round tummy but don’t want to wait too long in case any swelling/discomfort sets in. Most 2nd time moms show much earlier than they did with their first and its best to hold the session closer to 30 weeks. First time moms may have more leeway in terms of waiting a few more weeks. If you are unsure, a safe bet is around 32 weeks.
I recommend to call me at least before you are 25 weeks so you can be certain that we can fit you into my schedule.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
This session will last about an hour and you will be given 50 edited images on a CD and an online gallery. Your family and children are welcome to join in as well. I have many maternity dresses for you to wear if you would like but please make sure to read the info below and on my blog that will give you some ideas on outfits. This is an example of some maternity images I have captured in the past.
WHAT TO WEAR:
First and foremost, wear what is most comfortable and most “you”. Clothing for maternity and couples maternity photography shoots should be tight-fitting around the belly. Loose and baggy shirts will only hide that adorable belly we are trying to show off! Tight-fitting tank tops, button down shirts that can be tied or unbuttoned above the belly, scarfs that can be wrapped around your breasts and jeans without a maternity band are all great suggestions. Please pay special attention to your undergarments if you are scheduling a more intimate, in-studio session. I highly recommend purchasing a new bra/pantie set in both black and nude/white prior to your session. Often times, these will show so please keep that in mind.
Keep clothing selections for maternity portraits simple. Too many stripes and busy patterns can hide the stomach or detract attention away from it. Instead, stick with solid colors. Think about adding punch with a trendy necklace or earrings, or perhaps a pop of color with a cardigan or a cute scarf! Also, when you layer, we can change the look simply by adding or removing a layer.
